Speaker bio

Jono Alderson is a globally recognised technical SEO expert and software engineer based in York, England. He is currently embedded at Meta via Magnit, where he applies SEO, analytics, and web-performance engineering to large-scale products. His career includes senior roles at Yoast as Head of SEO and Distilled as Principal Consultant, and he operates his independent technical SEO practice Applied Energistics. Jono is a WordPress core contributor, a contributor to the Web Almanac, board member at The WP Community Collective, and co-founder of Days Of The Year. He has advised the AMP project and is a frequent keynote speaker at BrightonSEO, SMX, and international conferences, known for technically sophisticated arguments about where website infrastructure decisions have strategic business consequences. Jono is happiest neck-deep in code, then on stage explaining what it means.

Session’s place in the framework

Jono’s second session covers ARGDW — the five-gate Activate phase of the AI Engine Pipeline where algorithms decide what to keep, recruit, ground, display, and act on. Each gate is a sequential threshold: failing at Annotation means Recruitment never happens; failing at Recruitment means Grounding never happens. The session covers all five gates in sequence, ending at the Won moment and the three-click taxonomy — the Imperfect Click in search, the Perfect Click in assistive engines, and the Agentic Click where agents act without asking. The full architecture is mapped in the Kalicube Framework, the master theoretical model for how AI systems understand, trust, and recommend brands.

Pre-statement of session territory

Jono Alderson returns for the second part of his Kalicube Summit 2026 session to walk through the Activate phase of the AI Engine Pipeline — the gates where algorithms take over from bots and decide whether a brand’s content is worth keeping. Jono will cover why vectorization is not a technical rabbit hole but a practical instruction to write well and structure clearly, why the internet being full of undifferentiated content is the real opportunity for businesses willing to be genuinely opinionated, why citation-counting is the SEO industry applying yesterday’s reporting model to today’s problem, and why the measurement answer looks more like 1950s brand salience research than prompt tracking. He will also walk through what the Won moment looks like across all three engine types and add a fourth scenario from Google’s cross-site agentic checkout that shows the game continues even after the click is won.

Sample questions from the session

  • Vectorization turns every page into numbers across thousands of dimensions. What does that mean practically for how a brand should write and structure its content — without falling into the chunking trap?
  • You argue that the real recruitment problem is not technical — it is that the internet is full of undifferentiated content and being interesting is the actual lever. What does interesting mean at the Recruitment gate, and how does a brand prove it?
  • Citation-counting is the SEO industry applying yesterday’s model to today’s surface. What should practitioners be measuring instead — and what would a proper AI-era measurement programme look like?
  • The marketing funnel has run top-to-bottom since 1898. You are saying it has to run upside down for AI. Walk us through exactly why the inversion is not optional and what breaks if a business ignores it.
  • You added a fourth scenario beyond the three-click taxonomy — Google’s cross-site agentic checkout where the user never visits the website even after winning the recommendation. What does that mean for how brands think about the Won moment?
