Speaker bio
Dawn Anderson is the founder of Bertey, a Manchester-based digital marketing consultancy she established in 2012. She holds an MSc in Digital Marketing Strategy, a Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Marketing, is a Fellow of the Institute of Digital Marketing (FIDM), a Member of the British Computer Society (MBCS), and is currently completing a second MSc in Computer Science and Data Science. Dawn lectures at Manchester Metropolitan University and has spoken at BrightonSEO, Pubcon, MozCon, SMX, and WTSFest on information retrieval science and generative information retrieval. Her work bridges the academic information retrieval literature and practical SEO in a way very few practitioners can manage — she reads the IR papers and translates what they mean for what brands need to do.
What Dawn brings to Kalicube Summit 2026
Dawn Anderson brings academic information retrieval rigour to the bot-phase mechanics of the AI Engine Pipeline. Where most practitioners understand crawling and indexing from the platform-documentation side, Dawn understands it from the retrieval science side — the academic literature on how retrieval systems actually work, what has changed in that science since the LLM era began, and what those changes mean for how AI engines acquire and process content.
At Kalicube Summit 2026, Dawn covers DSCRI — the bot phase (Discovered, Selected, Crawled, Rendered, Indexed) — from the IR science angle. Her session grounds the framework’s bot-phase gates in the retrieval literature they sit inside. She names what is actually new in generative information retrieval versus what is a continuation of principles the retrieval community has understood for decades, and why that distinction matters for practitioners making decisions about where to invest.
Dawn’s dual perspective — practicing SEO at Bertey while pursuing a second MSc in Computer Science — means her session operates at the intersection of what is academically correct and what is operationally actionable. The IR science literature she draws on independently documents why the bot-phase gates matter in exactly the sequence the framework names them.
Dawn’s session at the Summit
Session 1.4 Dawn Anderson on DSCRI, RAG, and the Rebirth of Technical SEO Day 1, June 24, 2026 Framework concept: DSCRI (coined by Jason Barnard in 2025), the Record phase of The Kalicube Framework: Discovered, Selected, Crawled, Rendered, Indexed. SEL Article: The five infrastructure gates behind crawl, render, and index, Article 4 of Jason Barnard at Kalicube’s Search Engine Land series. Read the preview | Watch the session
One-line description: Dawn grounds DSCRI in academic information retrieval science, showing where the five gates of the Record phase map to established IR theory and why each gate is a distinct failure mode, not just a sequence.

Dawn’s place in the wider framework conversation
Dawn Anderson’s research and lecturing work at Manchester Metropolitan University independently documents why the DSCRI phase of the AI Engine Pipeline works the way it does. The IR science literature she draws on predates the framework but maps to its bot-phase architecture in a way that is not coincidental — it is the same underlying retrieval mechanism described from two different disciplines.
